RE BONSAI

再 生 盆 栽
RE BONSAI — bonsai on stone in a traditional Japanese interior
Source: TOUFU TOKYO

Bonsai holds the untamed majesty of nature inside a single vessel. Keeping one alive has always demanded a lifetime of skill.

These twenty ask nothing.

Withered bonsai, rescued by TOUFU TOKYO in Tokyo. The trunk and branches — decades of a master's shaping — are kept. The foliage is treated, colored by hand, and returned leaf by leaf, over weeks.

Real wood. Real leaves. Rebuilt to last. Twenty pieces, each one-of-one. Shown in person for the first time in the United States.

Going home taught me that craftsmanship is just someone deciding not to.”
